Dartmoor Hill Farm Project
Dartmoor Hill Farm Project (DHFP) was set up to try to ensure a viable future for Dartmoor farmers. Since 2003 DHFP has supported farmers on Dartmoor to establish and run a wide range of projects to add value to their businesses and to increase vocational skills. There is a small team of staff who are based in Princetown and can be contacted on 01822 890913 or emailed at hfp@dartmoor.gov.uk. The project is hosted by Dartmoor National Park Authority (DNPA) with further current funding support from the Duchy of Cornwall and the Prince's Countryside Fund.
We act as a central hub for Dartmoor farmers for a wide range of enquiries and assistance and send out regular newsletters with relevant information and topical issues to our database of approximately 400 farms. As we navigate the Agricultural Transition and societal changes as well as within farming itself, we aim to represent our farmers to identify and develop opportunities, help understand challenges and promote the positives that farming on Dartmoor deliver for society more widely.
Our emphasis is on assisting farmers with advice, guidance, collaborative activities, communication and funding. Alongside this, we recognise the importance of supporting the local farming community and the people that manage this iconic landscape, with a nod towards the social fabric through support for mental health initiatives, encouraging next generation and the positives from collaboration.
