The Swedish labour market has undergone what has been described as “the biggest change in modern times”. In October 2022, the new Employment Protection Act (“new EPA”, or in Swedish “nya LAS”) entered into force and it has, amongst other things, brought about new requirement on employers. At this workshop, Setterwalls employment law experts, Jenny Söberg and Maria Bergström, will guide you through the most important changes to the EPA as well as provide you with a checklist on what measures employers must consider taking due to the new legislation.

Key take aways:

• Take away 1: Employers have an expanded obligation to provide written information to employees.

• Take away 2: “General fixed term employments” has been replaced by “special fixed term employments”. A special fixed term employment transfers into permanent employment much quicker than general fixed term employments. Therefore, it is imperative to keep track on the aggregate period of employment.

• Take away 3: Employers can no longer prohibit employees from having other employments.
