About this event

ECIS23 Transformative skills - embrace friction to create the unexpected

The year 2023 will be the European Year of Skills and was announced by German President Ursula von der Leyen in her State of the Union address. The year 2023 will therefore highlight the importance of skill competences for the European creative sectors and industries. For this reason, the importance of skills development will be underlined in order to leave no one behind while promoting the recovery and green transformation in Europe.

The #ECIS23 will discuss and deepen the retraining and upskilling of European talent and professionals in two main events. It will kick off with the #ECIS23 Assembly on February 15, where more than 100 guests and delegates will discuss the needs and opportunities for teaching and learning transformative skills online and onsite. Later in the year, the #ECIS23 final conference will move to southern Sweden.

Agenda

Transformative skills – embrace friction to create the unexpected

10:00: Registration, coffee and exhibition at Norrlandsoperan, Umeå

Drop-in registration at Norrlandsoperan in Umeå, Sweden, and exhibition: “What can design do for a regenerative societal transformation, and what skills do we need for it?” This exhibition shows a broad spectrum of possible forms that design can take to address systemic change: from methods to tools, from data visual sensemaking to experimentation with biomaterials, from speculative futures to VR experiences. Navigating complexity, experimenting with frictions, cultivating vulnerability, fostering risk taking: how do they look when they become form?

Venue: Norrlandsoperan

The venue for #ECIS23 is Norrlandsoperan. It is northern Sweden's most important and largest performing arts house and started its operations in 1974 as a small opera ensemble that embraced the new and with a desire to develop and renew the art of opera. Today, Norrlandsoperan is a large performing arts house for opera, music, dance and contemporary art and with its own symphony orchestra, and it is precisely the foundation of the new and the innovative that makes Norrlandsoperan Sweden's leading venue for innovative performing arts.

In a performing arts industry that is largely burdened by both tradition and convention, not only nationally but also internationally, Norrlandsoperan must stand for the new, the undiscovered and the innovative.

To be continued in Helsingborg

This year's European Creative Industries Summit (#ECIS23) is organized in two parts. The first part is the #ECIS23 Assembly and is jointly organized by ECBN and RISE on February 15th in Umeå Sweden. The second event, the #ECIS23 closing conference, is a collaboration between ECBN and the Region of Skåne. Both events will take place under the auspices the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
