Centralasiendagarna 2021

Eventdetaljer

Saltanat Shoshanova - 25 November 11.30 - 12.30

Saltanat Shoshanova studied Art History at Vienna University (B.A.) and Free University Berlin (M.A.). She is a queer feminist activist and a researcher who publishes on the topics connected to art and activism in the post-Soviet space.

This lecture will focus on the discourses around gender, queerness, and feminism in contemporary Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan that are complex overlapping contexts in which different artistic and activist practices appear. It will give a brief overview of how feminist thought developed in the region and its intersections with the notions of post-Soviet, post-, and decolonial. Throughout the lecture, we will engage with theoretical works written by both “Western” and local scholars and look at examples of (queer) feminist artistic and activist projects.

This year’s Central Asia Days will be our 8th and we are happy to present the following thematic areas for our 2-day November event:

How climate, gender, civil society and sustainable peace intersect

A review of the developments in Central Asia during its three decades of independence and a discussion of what the future might hold.
