Whippersnappers
Whippersnappers is a South London-based inclusive arts organisation with over 28 years of experience delivering accessible, participatory arts to children, families, and communities. We are proud to be at the forefront of creative and inclusive practice, with a strong focus on supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
At the heart of our work is a commitment to inclusion, creativity, and community. Each year, we support over 140 SEND children and young people through specialist playschemes, after-school clubs, and inclusive arts activities. Our dedicated team includes over 30 freelance artists and a bank of experienced SEND support staff who deliver tailored, high-quality programmes in safe and nurturing environments.
Our SEND journey began in 2002 with a pioneering music project funded by Youth Music, where we collaborated with five Lambeth nurseries to create original songs for and with children with complex needs—culminating in a performance at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Since then, we have deepened our commitment to SEND families through ongoing research, training, and innovative programme development.
Whippersnappers currently run inclusive holiday playschemes across our own sites College Lodge (Dulwich Park), and Brockwell Lido (Herne Hill) and across community sites such as adventure playgrounds and SEND schools. We provide specialist arts-based programmes for children aged 5–18 with a range of additional needs. We also offer SEND-focused training, parent engagement, and signposting support.
Rooted in a rich history of music, theatre and cultural exchange – from early childhood music sessions to international collaborations – Whippersnappers continues to grow as a trusted and passionate advocate for SEND inclusion in the arts and the community.
We are proud to launch our new SEND Handbook as a practical tool to empower both families and professionals to navigate the SEND system and access the support they deserve.
