West Ridge Church Special Needs Ministry

My name is Anita Metcalf. I am a member and volunteer at West Ridge Church. I retired after 32 yrs with AT&T as a manager. My husband and I live in Dallas, GA. My husband has a degenerative eye disease that has robbed him of his vision. I also have a 40+ year old special needs stepson.

The Special Needs Ministry at West Ridge Church is second to none. Shelley Moffitt, a mother of a special needs child came up with the idea of how parents of special needs children need a respite, or break from the daily stresses. This is how Breakaway was born!

Breakaway has also splintered off a Shepherd Ministry on Sunday Mornings for parents who can drop their special needs child with a caring volunteer while the parents attend the church service. As well, there are Journey Groups for special needs parents. The parents meet, socialize and fellowship together while volunteers watch and care for their children. Most recently, we have added a Sunday Morning Sunday Class for our Special Needs members who are 6th grade and up.

 Our program is all about being the hands of feet of Jesus to these awesome parents and their equally awesome children.
