Teens Exploring Technology

About Teens Exploring Technology:

Teens Exploring Technology strives to create a culture of technology leaders in South Los Angeles, where access to technology is extremely limited. We provide youths (7th-11th graders) the opportunity to be emerged in an intensive high-tech curriculum. Over fifteen weeks in the Summer Coding Leadership Academy students plan, design, and develop their very own web and mobile apps. We culminate with a Demo Day open to the local community, where students present their projects to judges. Following the conclusion of the summer program students take part in a Stanford College Tour, visit Silicon Valley, and the Google Headquarters in Mountain View.

About Summer Coding Leadership Academy:

Summer Coding Leadership Academy (SCLA), based at USC, teaches students computer programming, leadership and the soft skills that they need to lead and be successful as they build web and mobile products that benefit low-income communities. We use technology and coding as tools that lead to discipline, confidence, and critical thinking. During the 13-week summer coding academy our students work closely with each other and our coaching staff to build web and mobile apps that address community problems - these serve as their minimal viable products. Students get hands on experience working in teams using the project management tool Asana, and build web products with HTML and Javascript and mobile application products with MIT App Inventor.
