Pulau Ubin Cleanup

After visiting Pulau Ubin a couple of times for cycling, it didn't take long to realize just how much rubbish is scattered everywhere, even in places you wouldn't expect, like in the tropical rain forest. It is disappointingly rampant. The main culprits include plastic bottles and aluminium cans, but also lots of heavy items which belonged to the houses that were once built on Pulau Ubin. To my dismay, not much has changed in this regard since my initial visit in 2009.

Because of this, I decided to set up a volunteer base for organized rubbish collection events. These events would typically last for 1 to 2 hours and takes place on the weekend every 4-6 weeks. Volunteers are asked to bring along their own garbage bags and gloves and other rubbish collecting utensils (e.g. barbecue tongs). It is also strongly encouraged to use good mosquito repellent, wear long-sleeved top and pants/trousers to avoid getting bitten by the mosquitoes there! Refreshing coconuts, beer and seafood awaits after the afternoon’s hard work too! So we look forward to seeing you there! About myself: My name is Samuel Gmehlin, I am originally from Switzerland.
