Michael Brooke
Hello - my name is Michael Brooke and I spent many years in book and magazine publishing writing about skateboarding.
I know that seems like an odd topic, but my book “The Concrete Wave (the history of skateboarding)“ sold over 42,000 copies, spawned two feature films (Dogtown and Z Boys, Lords of Dogtown and a 52 part tv show. It also became the catalyst for a magazine called Concrete Wave.
In 2018, I sold my business and wound up working as a funeral director’s assistant.
It was quite the career transition!
I wound up writing a book about my experiences in both the skateboard industry and working at the funeral home. It’s called “The Endless Wave (skateboarding, death and spirituality)”
In May of 2023, I left the funeral home and decided to go back into the world of publishing full-time. I created a business called Time for My Story. We turn people’s memories into magazines.
Over the course of the last few years, I’ve realized that the conversation around death is changing. I want to help facilitate this change and this is why I created The Legacy Expo.
