Gail Newsham & Alison Hitchen DKL Foundation

The foundation was set up in 2017 to mark the 100-year anniversary of that first game. A chance meeting brought Gail and Ali together and led them to conspire to mark the100-year anniversary and mark it they did! Together with a team of volunteers they embarked on a whirlwind year! First up, the first ever historic blue plaque to mark the achievements of women’s football (you will see this on your trail), a gala dinner, the first national women’s walking football tournament, an FA award and to top it all off on the 22nd December 2017 a 6 metre by 4 metre granite tribute was unveiled at Preston North End. The unveiling made the national news at ten and on Christmas Day 2017 appeared on Sky Sports News!
