Deconstructing Directing
About Deconstructing Directing
Deconstructing Directing is an open-access educational project designed to make the directing process visible, practical, and teachable. Built for directors working in community, educational, and early-career environments, the project breaks down the craft into clear frameworks, real-world examples, and emotionally intelligent practices that support healthier, more effective rehearsal rooms.
The library includes written chapters, video demonstrations, worksheets, and practical tools covering everything from facilitation and leadership to taste, text work, and ensemble collaboration. New material is released on an ongoing basis, with Acts 3 and 4 and Side Act 1 launching in conjunction with this marathon event.
The goal is simple: to give directors at every level access to the knowledge, structure, and support they rarely receive, and to strengthen upstream theatre ecosystems by investing directly in the people who make the work happen.
