Innovation Boot Camp - Autumn 2022

Solve real problems, learn more about entrepreneurship and compete for great prizes!

💡 Innovation Boot Camp is a four-day event where you develop new business ideas together with other driven and ambitious students with different skills and competencies. You will recieve valuable support from professional business coaches and learn how to take the first steps towards realizing a business idea in practice. If you want to continue working on your idea after the boot camp, there will be a lot of support available with everything from business coachning, idea development/startup programs, office spaces, funding, etcetera.

Come alone or bring your friends, roll up your sleeves and solve real problems and challenges during an intense and FUN weekend!

⏲️ Deadline to sign up: Sunday 9th of October, but sign up as soon as possible. The number of participants is limited!

🌍 Where? The program will be held at A Working Lab in Universum, on campus.

🧑 Who can participate? Innovation Boot Camp 2022 is only open for University students at Umeå university and SLU Umeå.

💸 Prizes! Gift cards valid for most stores in Umeå for 4 000 SEK for each price category - Best Innovation, Most Sustainable Idea and Best Feasilibity. You also get a lot of support if you want to continue with your idea after the event. Any tax on the prizes that may occur, is paid by the winners.

Why should I participate?

Innovation Boot Camp is packed with inspiration, networking, and coaching from professional business coaches. It's a perfect opportunity to learn more about entrepreneurship and to start the journey of starting your own business!

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Grow your multidisciplinary network! A strong network and to find the right people to create a team with is key for success. At Innovation Boot Camp, you will meet and bond with other driven students from other disciplines who interested in entrepreneurship.

💡 Get advice from professional business coaches! During the event you will meet professional business coaches from different organisations in Umeå who works with supporting entrepreneurs and innovators.

📚 You will learn how to use the practice tools and methods for developing new ideas. You will be able to use these tools for whatever kind of business idea you will work with - now or in the future.

🏆 It's the best way to get started with your business idea! If you want to continue working on your idea after the boot camp, there will be a lot of support available with everything from business coachning, idea development/startup programs, office spaces, funding, etcetera.

🧑‍💼 You will become more employable! Every organisation and company need to find new innovative ways to perform. During Innovation Boot Camp, you will develop entrepreneurial skills that will make you more attractive towards future employers.

Do I already need to have a business idea or can I come up with one during the event?

💡 The boot camp will start with an idea generation event on Tuesday October 11, where you and your team members will generate ideas together. You can also join the event with an existing business idea, but if so it needs to still be in the idea phase (i.e. you should not have started to develop and verify the idea yet).

Do I participate in teams or by myself?

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 You can either sign up as a team together with your friends, or sign up individually and we will set up a team for you together with other students from different disciplines (way more fun if you ask me!). A team can consist of maximum five participants.

🥇 To develop a business idea and create a sucessful business, the team and its members are key for success.

If you have a business idea already that you would like to work on during the boot camp and would prefer to do this alone rather than with a team of other students, you are welsome to contact us (see info below) and we can discuss this over a coffee.

Schedule for the event

Tuesday 11/10 - Bonding and idea generation!

Time: 15.00 - 18.00

Innovation Boot Camp starts off lightly with a teambuilding and idea generation workshop. On this day, you get the chance to come up with a new business idea together and get to know your team. Professional business coaches are available and with concrete methods and tools, we will help you to come up with a business idea.

• Meet and bond with your team, as well as other fellow Innovation Boot Camp participants
• Release your creative juices and generate awesome ideas together with your new team!

This event day is a part of the Innovationm Boot Camp, even if you already have an idea in mind.

Saturday 15/10 - Let the boot camp begin!

Time: 10.00 - 17.00

• Morning: Introduction to the boot camp weekend; useful tools for structuring, developing and presenting/pitching your idea; inspiration; etc.
• Lunch and fika - on the house!
• Afternoon: You and your team work on your business idea with input and guidance from our business coaches.

Sunday 16/10 - Blood, sweat and tears!

Time: 9.00 - 17.00

• A whole day that you and your team have dedicated to the progress of your business idea and solving that initial problem or need. Business coaches will be present during the day.
• Lunch and fika will be included!
• Deadline: send in your written contribution by 24.00.

Tuesday 18/10 - Pitch in front of a jury!

During a given time during these days, you will pitch your idea in front of our professional jury.

After that, the jury will decide the winners who will be announced at the final event Thursday 20/10. The winners of respective category will be decided upon both from the handed in written material and the oral pitch.

Thursday 20/10 - GRANDE FINALE! 🍾🎉

Time: 15.00 - 17.30

We end Innovation Boot Camp by celebrating your hard work and dedication! We announce the winners and you will get the chance to network with students, partners and startups looking for more team members. You will also get the unique opportunity to listen to a successful entrepreneur during the final event.

Students that have not participated in Innovation Boot Camp are also welcome to attend the final event, so tell your friends to sign up!

Program for the final event:

• We will listen to a successful entrepreneur who will give us a talk about the entrepreneurship journey.
• We will announce the winners of Innovation Boot Camp 2022.
• Between the key note speaker and the announcement of the winners of Innovation Boot Camp, there will be mingle, networking and of course, food and alcohol-free drinks.

You get the chance to network with:

• Partners to Innovation Boot Camp.
• Startups at Uminova Innovation that are looking for new talents and team members.
• Students that are developing business ideas with support from the Innovation Office, that are looking for new team members.

If you are a participant of Innovation Boot Camp, you are automatically registered for the final event. Non-participants of Innovation Boot Camp that would like to attend the final event, need to sign up seperately through this link: (soon to be announced)

If you sign up for the event but end up getting symptoms that could be related to Covid-19, before or during the event, tell your team and join them through a digital channel instead of being physically present.

Who are we then, who organise this event?

Well, we like to think of ourselves as your multiskilled support team who will be there to guide you and cheer you on. We all work with different aspects of business development, to support and spur new ideas, innovations and entrepreneurs.

The Innovation Office at Umeå University organises the event together with multiple partners from Umeås innovation support system: Uminova Innovation, eXpression Umeå, SLU Holding, and Coompanion, Region Västerbotten, Almi Västerbotten and A Working Lab.
